The pictures to the right were taken in the Hall of Heroes in the
Pentagon at my retirement ceremony in 2010, with my grandson Henry
and my wife Brenda. It was at that ceremony
that LTG Dana Atkins announced my post-retirement intentions to
continue to serve America by
attending law school at the University of South Carolina Law School,
and then following in the footsteps of my inspiration and mentor,
another retired Air Force colonel named Bud Day.
Unfortunately Col. Day passed away shortly
after my graduation from law school, so I didn’t actually get to
partner with Bud in the practice of law. But I do carry on Bud’s
tradition of serving the law the same way we served the country
while we were in uniform, which is best described by the Air Force
motto: “Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in
all that we do.”
